Individual subscriber

If you do not fall into any of the other categories above and you are undertaking private research, you can apply to join the Drill Hall Library (the Drill Hall) as an individual subscriber. The fee for borrower status is £100 per year. Membership is granted at the discretion of the library manager.

How to apply

If approved, we will ask you to visit the library to register with us. You will need to bring:

  • proof of name and address; and
  • a passport-sized photograph.

You will need to complete a registration form and sign to confirm acceptance of the Drill Hall rules before receiving your membership card and user information. You will also need to pay your membership fee. Membership is valid for one year.

You will need to bring your Universities at Medway library card with you on every visit and sign in at reception.

What we can offer you

We can offer you:

  • access to the Drill Hall;
  • reference access to over 90,000 academic texts and journals;
  • use of 250 study spaces;
  • use of photocopying facilities, binding machines and DVD playback equipment;
  • access to daily newspapers;
  • a personal library account; and
  • entitlement to borrow up to five ordinary or 7-day loan items from the Drill Hall stock at any one time.

To avoid any misunderstanding, please note that short loan items are only available for reference and not borrowing. Study loans, overnight loans, inter-site loans (items located at Avery Hill or Maritime Greenwich), inter-library loans, theses/dissertations and reservations are excluded from the scheme.

Additionally, due to educational licence agreements, electronic databases, electronic books and journals and specialist software are not available to visitors or external users.
